Privacy Policy
Q/T translates and proofreads text. This page explains what data Q/T handles, why, and who else touches it. We designed Q/T to send as little as possible off your Mac.
What stays on your Mac
- Voice input. Speech is turned into text on your Mac with Apple's speech recognition. The audio is not sent to us.
- Reading text from images and your screen. This is done on your Mac with Apple's Vision. The images are not sent to us. Only the text that was read is used, and only if you translate or proofread it.
- History. Your past translations and corrections are stored on your Mac. You can search, delete, or turn history off in Settings.
- Clipboard. If you open Q/T within 10 seconds of copying text, Q/T can fill it in for you. You can turn this off in Settings. Q/T does not keep a copy of your clipboard.
- Quick on-device translation. The instant draft is produced on your Mac with Apple's Translation.
What is sent to our server
To produce the AI translation, proofreading, and alternative phrasings, Q/T sends the following to our server, which forwards the text to an AI provider (Anthropic) to generate the result and sends the result back:
- the text you are translating or proofreading, and your language and style settings (and, if you use Pro, your custom instructions and glossary terms);
- a random ID for the current piece of work, used to count your daily free uses.
We do not store the text you send or the results, and we do not write them to our logs. The AI provider processes the text under its own terms, which may include retaining it for a limited time for safety and abuse prevention. Please don't enter anything you don't want processed by a third-party AI service.
Identifiers we keep
To keep the service from being abused and to apply the free daily limit, our server stores:
- an identifier for your copy of the app: a cryptographic key identifier created by Apple's App Attest, or the app transaction ID that Apple provides for your Apple Account's copy of Q/T, together with the day's usage count (kept about two days);
- a server token that identifies your Mac after Apple verifies it (kept up to seven days);
- the public key and a counter that let the app prove it is a genuine Q/T (kept as long as your copy of the app is registered).
These identifiers are not your name, email address, or advertising ID, and we do not use them to track you across apps or websites.
Purchases
Subscriptions and purchases are handled by Apple. We never see your payment details. To unlock Pro, the app sends us Apple's signed transaction record, which we verify with Apple's certificates. We keep only the result of that check, for up to one hour.
What we do not do
- No advertising and no ad or tracking SDKs.
- No selling or sharing of your data for marketing.
- No analytics that read your text.
Service providers
- Vercel hosts our website and server. It keeps standard operational logs such as time, URL path, and status. These do not include the text you translate.
- Upstash stores the short-lived identifiers and counters above.
- Anthropic provides the AI model that produces translations, corrections, and alternatives.
- Apple provides on-device features, the App Store, and device verification.
These providers may process data in countries other than yours.
Your choices
- Delete history, or turn it off, in Settings → History.
- Turn off clipboard filling, the screen capture shortcut, or voice input in Settings, or in System Settings → Privacy & Security.
- To ask about or request deletion of identifiers tied to your copy of the app, email support@qt-translator.xyz.
Children
Q/T is a general-purpose utility and is not directed to children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app or on this page.
